It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

That it took as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to possess a record if not afforded the chance.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because it appeared my form was missing completely," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature kick in and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and a priceless quality in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there Healy was on her way.

"A chance to take the field and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was removed Australia required another 66 at run per delivery - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

Those words will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this success coming after win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
