Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
