Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
